Driven by a desire for world domination the Nazis, during World War II, came into possession of an enormous number of artifacts with strange miraculous powers. With the help of these they made countless experiments intending to build super weapons which would bring them final glorious victory.
Of all the places where the Nazis, allegedly carried out secret operations the most mysterious is one far to the south in the depths of the antarctic ice.
A place where a secret impenetrable base called base 211was located.
In the 1930s the Germans actively explored. In the area they called Neuschwabenland or New Swabia located on the Antarctic continent between 20°E and 10°W in Queen Maud Land they discovered parts with warm fresh-water, ice-free areas, and vegetation. This in an area where, according to science, everything should be frozen. Here, allegedly, the Nazis started constructing their top secret base 211.
In 1943, Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz was quoted saying “Germany’s submarine fleet is proud that it created an unassailable fortress for the Fuehrer on the other end of the world,” in Antarctica.
Even after more than half a century this mystery leaves a number of still unanswered questions:
What lies behind that proud statement by General Karl Dönitz?
Did the Nazis did create a base in which they managed to develop secret weapons?
Are they still hidden there under the veil of the impenetrable ice?
For many people the theory that it was possible for the Germans to hide a super secret base under the ice is incredible and difficult to believe, but throughout recent history there are supposedly written testimonies from people who went searching for those bases.
One of the people who went to search for base was Admiral Richard E. Byrd, a well known polar explorer, who in 1946 was part of a larger expedition that was supported by a large naval force (designated Task Force 68), commanded by Rear Admiral Richard H. Cruzen.
The code name for the mission was Operation Highjump.
This large naval force was made up of thirteen US Navy support ships including the USS Mount Olympus and USS Philippine Sea aircraft carriers, six helicopters, six flying boats, two seaplane tenders and fifteen other aircraft. The total number of staff involved was over 4,000.
An excerpt from February 19, 1947 describes Admiral Byrd’s arrival over the pole at 1000 hours:
“ We are crossing over the small mountain range and still proceeding northward as best as can be assured. Beyond the mountain range is what appears to be a valley with a small river or stream running through the center portion. There should be no green valley below! Something is definitely wrong and abnormal here! We should be over Ice and Snow! To the portside are great forests growing on the mountain slopes. Our navigation Instruments are still spinning; the gyroscope is oscillating back and forth!”
People remain skeptical and yet In his interview on March 5, 1947 for the edition of the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, admiral Admiral Byrd give interview :
“Adm. Byrd declared today that it was imperative for the United States to initiate immediate defense measures against hostile regions. The admiral further stated that he didn’t want to frighten anyone unduly but that it was a bitter reality that in case of a new war the continental United States would be attacked by flying objects which could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds. Admiral Byrd repeated the above points of view, resulting from his personal knowledge gathered both at the north and south poles, before a news conference held for International News Service.”
Even with the existence of admiral Byrd’s interview most people remain skeptical of the existence of a secret Nazi base, or any kind of civilization deep in the Antarctic ice.
However, as always, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
During subsequent expeditions Norwegian investigators found and mapped areas with vegetation and mountains which are the same as those described by admiral Byrd.
So, is it possible that there is a secret base 211 in Antarctica or is it just a myth?
