Does evil exist? One student’s answer to this question struck me to the core!

A university professor posed the following question to his students:

– Was everything that exists created by God?

One student bravely replied:

– Yes, created by God.

– Did God create everything? – the professor asked.

– Yes, sir – answered the student.

The professor inquired:

– If God created everything, then God created evil since it exists. And according to the principle that our deeds define us, then God is evil.

Upon hearing this response, the student fell silent. The professor was pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had once again proven that belief in God is a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said:

– May I ask you a question, professor?

– Of course, – the professor replied.

The student stood up and asked:

– Professor, does cold exist?

– What a question? Of course it does. Haven’t you ever felt cold?

The students laughed at the young man’s question. The young man responded:

– Actually, sir, there is no such thing as cold. According to the laws of physics, what we perceive as cold is actually the absence of heat. Cold can only be understood as the absence of energy transfer.

Absolute zero (-460 degrees Fahrenheit) represents the complete absence of heat. At this temperature, all matter becomes inert and incapable of reacting. Cold does not exist. We have coined this term to describe the sensation we experience in the absence of heat.

The student continued:

– Professor, does darkness exist?

– Of course, it exists.

– You are mistaken again, sir. Darkness does not truly exist either. Darkness is, in fact, the absence of light. We can study light, but not darkness. By using Newton’s prism, we can disperse white light into various colors and examine the different wavelengths of each color. Darkness cannot be measured.

A simple beam of light can penetrate the realm of darkness and illuminate it. How can one determine the degree of darkness in a space? By measuring the amount of light present. Isn’t that true? Darkness is a concept that humans employ to describe what occurs in the absence of light.

Finally, the young man asked the professor:

– Professor, does evil exist?

This time, uncertainly, the professor answered:

– Of course, as I stated before. We witness it every day – the cruelty among people, numerous crimes, and violence across the world. These examples are nothing more than manifestations of evil.

To this, the student replied:

“Evil does not truly exist, sir, or at least it does not exist independently. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is akin to darkness and cold, a term coined by humans to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not akin to faith or love, which exist as light and warmth.

Evil arises due to the absence of Divine love within a person’s heart. It is comparable to the cold that arises in the absence of heat or the darkness that emerges when there is no light.

The name of that student was Albert Einstein…
